Re: “Bàsico and Mixson Bath & Racquet open on the Fourth

Food and drink review: "staying on topic", recently went up to Basico to try out the menu and have to say it is one of the best dinners I have had in a long time. The menu is creative and is executed very well. The drinks are also very tasty and not your run of the mill standards. My favorite was the gin and coconut and the michelada. I've eaten all over the lowcountry and have yet to find a Mexican restaurant that comes close to what we experienced. Cool atmosphere and worth the trip. Glad to see chefs like these pushing the envelope and not putting out Americanized Mexican food. My party and I tried the majority of the menu and nobody was disappointed. The standouts were the cabeza, chorizo, fried fish, fried chicken and barbacoa tacos. Really liked how they used fresh corn tortillas. For apps we had the charred peppers and bone marrow, both were great. The tortas were phenomenal (tried the lamb bacon and porchetta). Highly recommend both of these tortas. Prices were also nice on the wallet, $3 to $15 for the larger plates. Hope this helps for those that are actually interested in food and not just on here to vent.
