The first annual Black Ink Charleston African American Book Festival will be held at Burke High School. Over 40 African-American authors will be present including Alphonso Brown, Mattie Sanders, Damon Fordham, Sherman Pyatt, and Charleston's first poet laureate Marcus Amaker, as the Keynote speaker. This event will also feature a spoken word Poetry Slam, a workshop on writing and self-publishing as well as the opportunity to interface with renowned African American authors.
