Big Business fills coffers

Campaign Shoppers

Wal-Mart warned managers recently of the dangers of an Obama presidency, but the company's Political Action Committee has been a bipartisan donor during this election cycle. A variety of businesses contribute to candidates from both parties, mostly through non-partisan corporate or employee PACs.

But these decisions can backfire. After being outed as a generous contributor to John McCain last week, the founder of the gay cruising website Manhunt.net stepped down from the company's board. Jonathan Crutchley isn't the only gay man to support John McCain, but it was bad for business to link the popular site with the Republican ranks.

Here's a list of some company and employee PAC donations in the first six months of 2008. Exactly what funeral directors want from Jim DeMint, we just don't know.
