Chicago's funniest

You could say that Chicago comedian and writer Beth Stelling got her start in Charleston. In a 2011 interview with Comedy of Chicago, Stelling says, “My very, very first set, is arguably not a set at all. I ‘opened’ for my friends band in Charleston, S.C. before they went on for the second part of their show, and I told a story about my step-mother calling my sisters and I vampires- which was a story that my friends loved. It was terrifying and exhilarating, but in the end felt good to get it over with.” Since then, Stelling has kept busy — hopefully, without prompting her granny to break out a crucifix and bottle of holy water. She has starred in the hit-play 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche (a play which should be well-known to Chucktown’s theater-philes), appeared on a slew of late-night shows, and taped an upcoming standup special for Comedy Central (it is set to air October 10). Stelling is currently working on a digital series for Warner Bros. This week, she finally returns to the Holy City to deliver a set of standup, and considering she was once named the Best Comedian in Chicago by the Chicago Reader, you should be in for a real treat.
