I go to Charleston Power Yoga to move, breathe, and sweat. Charleston is an incredible yoga town and part of that reputation is due to the folks behind 10-year-old Charleston Power Yoga.

Started by Beth Plante and Sarah Frick (who recently broke off and started her own venture, The Works), CPY is the only Babtiste Affiliate Studio in South Carolina, and Charleston’s original heated power yoga studio. “Our first studio opened in July 2009 on upper King Street, where there was nothing but boarded up buildings,” says Plante. In 2012, CPY opened their Mt. Pleasant spot. The CPY community is big and loud and welcoming — just try out a class and you’ll see what I mean. “Since the day we opened on King Street we have had a weekly free yoga class on Fridays at 4 p.m. where we mentor new teachers and never charge to take class,” says Plante. “Typically there is a line down the street to get in.” And, super big news for CPY is, well, this award: this is the first time CPY has taken home Best Yoga Studio. And after a decade of kicking ass and taking names, who deserves it more? —Connelly Hardaway
