While renowned museum designer Jeff Daly, the man behind the Gibbes’ ongoing $13 million renovation, was getting acquainted with the Gibbes’ beautiful Beaux Arts building, he found that the dome was most likely of Tiffany design — as in Louis Comfort Tiffany, the master of stained glass who started by making lamps (in fact, Google “Tiffany wisteria lamp.” It’s worth the 10 seconds it will take you to look at it.). In the new design, that dome, whether it’s a real Tiffany or not, will hover over a bright, airy gallery worthy of its beauty. And it will get cleaned, too — apparently, it’s been more than a hundred years since the glass’s last shine-up job.
