Best Sullivan’s Island Brunch

The Obstinate Daughter

I’m currently kicking myself. Merely thinking about Sullivan’s Island’s quaint (and delightful!) Obstinate Daughter reminds me that I have an unused gift card to the place, begging to be used. All those nights of sad, homecooked meals can’t compare to what I’ve gotten at Obstinate. The only thing that eases my pain is knowing I have something to look forward to. And there’s a lot to look forward to here.

Come for the cozy booths and beachy cool ambience; hang around for the fun, airy bar space; and linger into the evening under the dim lights. Ahhhh. And then, of course, there’s the food: Italian/Southern/seafood cuisine straight from the mind of James Beard semi-finalist Jacques Larson (also of Wild Olive). From the simply delicious flatbread to the Mepkin Abbey Mushrooms to the ricotta gnocchi with short rib ragu (a family favorite) there’s a lot to consider at Obstinate. And, for most devotees, those considerations take place at brunch, which helps Obstinate take home both its best Sullivan’s Island Restaurant and Best Sullivan’s Island Brunch awards. The brunch menu is all your favorite comfort food, add eggs, with a dash of inventive genius. From the beet cured salmon flatbread to the eggs benedict with pork loin, what’s not to love? —Connelly Hardaway
