Best Reason to Renovate Something

Staff Pick

When it comes to your home, there’s always something you could improve. Now, thanks to Workshop on King Street, you can make sure those improvement projects support a local tradesperson. Started by John Paul Huguley, formerly of the American College of the Building Arts, Workshop showcases the work of local furniture makers, ironworkers, carpenters, and other artisans of the building arts. The idea is to give people who are in search of anything from a new dining set to a new door, a place where they can find local, traditionally made pieces. At the same time, the shop gives local tradespeople exposure to a wide base of potential clients. Huguley’s and his business partner Jon Palmer’s eventual goal is to have a larger space that houses an actual workshop for craftspeople to ply their trades in, as well as a showroom and meeting space. We’ve already got the Eat Local and Buy Local movements — looks like it’s time to add “Build Local” to the mix.
