Best Place to Photograph Dolphins

Shem Creek

Coleman Boulevard. Mt. Pleasant

Whether on the docks and seafood restaurant decks, atop the small bridge along Coleman Boulevard, or on kayaks just a few feet from the water's surface, Mt. Pleasant's historic Shem Creek provides plenty of opportunities to catch bottlenose dolphins at play. In the shallow creek area near the main marina, things are pretty quiet and tranquil. But as the waterway opens up into the harbor, small packs of dolphins gracefully swim back and forth, and often alongside paddlers and motorboaters. Photographers with enough patience might get the chance to click a few dolphins at the surface just as a brown pelican or two fly over the marsh grass. A serene scene, indeed.
