Best Photograph That Should Have Made the Cover of The Post and Courier But Didn't

The one with the arm

For some, the photo The Post and Courier ran on its front page following the brutal Lake Moultrie alligator attack was too much. A man had lost his arm to a hungry gator — OK, the mini-saurus probably wasn't looking for a meal as much as it was just reclaiming its turf — and there he was laid out on the ground, his shirt a bloody mess and that place where an arm used to be, well, it was a place where an arm used to be. Shocking, yes, but nowhere near as cringe-inducing as an online photo of the gator with the actual arm hanging from its mouth — the appendage was as lifeless as a sock and nearly as limp. Not exactly a Pulitzer Prize-winning shot, but when you're going to go with gore — and exploit a man's pain — why not go the full monty?
