Best Oral History

Staff Pick

StoryCorps, which sends mobile recording booths across the country to record conversations between friends and loved ones, set up its snazzy Airstream trailer in Ansonborough Field this fall. During its four weeks in Charleston, the booth saw a steady flow of traffic that included everyone from parents with their children to teachers and former students. The project, which airs snippets of the recordings that it collects on NPR’s Morning Edition, is helping make oral history cool again by reminding people what oral history is: simply talking with and listening to the people you care about.
