We understand the initial appeal. We’ve heard the value of streetfront buildings in terms of slowing traffic and encouraging pedestrian use. But we can’t imagine that it also applies to massive compounds like the new Sanders Clyde Elementary. While there are some artistic measures in the design (the lobby and mural for instance), and anything is better than the Archer campus, that imposing first glance from East Bay Street makes it look more like the kids are in there for three-to-five years.
