Best Neighborhood Bar

Moe's Crosstown Tavern

Moe's Crosstown Tavern

Downtown. 714 Rutledge Ave. 722-3287

Ah, the old Hampton Park neighborhood bar and restaurant Moe's Crosstown Tavern wins once again, and for good reason. The dimly-lit, bustling tavern, situated on a street corner just around the bend from Hampton Park and across from the old minor league ballpark, is a welcoming place with an impressive menu of grub and suds (over 10 beers on tap -- micros, imports, and domestics). Their slightly greasy pub food is killer -- specialty burgers and sandwiches, wings, quesadillas, fried green tomato BLTs, enormous onion rings. Patrons who regularly pack the place for lunch, happy hour, and late-night swear by the french fries. Despite the sports footage on some of the overhanging TVs, Moe's tends to hop more like a big city neighborhood tavern full of newspaper staffers, graduate students, and local yokels than the typical Charleston sports bar. Hence, another big win as Best Neighborhood Bar in this year's Best of Charleston.
