Best local FCC commissioner

Mignon Clyburn

Staff Pick

What if I told you that a Charleston woman who is the daughter of South Carolina’s only Democratic congressman is the sole remaining Obama commissioner on the Federal Communications Commission fighting for Net Neutrality and against telco industry consolidation? Well, meet Mignon Clyburn. Appointed during the last administration, Clyburn is the only remaining Democratic voice on the FCC, which took dramatic steps that it saw as pro-consumer. Since Trump took office, a few of these initiatives have already been rolled back, but keep an ear out for Mignon’s name both on the FCC and beyond. —Sam Spence
