Staff Pick

It was the end of 2011 when Matt and Melanie Capobianco stood on Market Street preparing to comply with a court order to give up the 2-year-old girl they had hoped to adopt. They had unwittingly become a part of a viciously emotional lawsuit over technicalities of an obscure federal law, the Indian Child Welfare Act. 2012 marked the first full year that Veronica lived away from the Capobianco’s James Island home.
