They pulled it off! David Merritt and Jaime Tenny of COAST Brewing Co., Rich Carley and Scott Shor of Charleston Beer Exchange, and a great team of colleagues and beer-lovin’ volunteers made what certainly will be the first of many Charleston Brewvival events a grand success. Under a big tent and across a grassy field in Noisette (across the road from COAST’s brewing facility), over 1,000 beer lovers showed up to sample over 80 varieties of extremely rare and unusual beers — weird stuff that was wooden cask-aged, or spiked with truly odd ingredients, or fermented with wild yeast strains that created tart and sour flavors. Brewvival was not yer daddy’s casual beer festival; it was the most intensive specialty beer session of the year.
