Bruno Goes to the Puppy Bowl

Staff Pick

Surely the cutest alternative to an organized sporting event ever conceived, Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl is the non-football lover’s reason for looking forward to Superbowl Sunday. For literally hours, you can watch adorable pups tackle each other, play tug-of-war, and sometimes go to sleep on the field, all in a mock football setup that’s become more elaborate as the years have gone on (2015 was year 11 for the Puppy Bowl). This year, Lowcountry viewers had a special dog to cheer for: Bruno, a pit bull from Orangeburg’s Healing Species, an organization that works with Lowcountry schools. Rescued from an animal cruelty situation, Bruno was chosen as a second-string player for Team Ruff, which took on Team Fluff in the big game. Bruno’s happy ending has gone far beyond the Puppy Bowl. After the game, he and his sister found their forever home with a Lowcountry couple.
