Battery2BeachRoute Group Ride

When: Sun., May 16, 10 a.m. 2010
Tired of wasting all your hard earned money on gas trying to get to the beach? The Battery2Beach campaign is trying to solve this problem. It seeks to provide bicyclists and pedestrians with a safe route from one Charleston beach to another, from Isle of Palms, through Sullivan’s Island and Mt. Pleasant, over the Ravenel Bridge, through Charleston and James Island to Folly Beach. Sounds like a hike, huh? On May 16, this ride will temporarily be cut in half to launch the campaign. The group rides will start at the Riverfront Park on Folly Beach and at the parking lot on Palm Boulevard and the IOP Connector at 10 a.m. The two groups will meet at the Battery in Charleston around noon. Riders can also join in at several points along the two groups’ routes. An after-party will be held at Vickery’s downtown. This ride is part of the larger “Do the Charleston” event on Sunday, a car-free day on King Street, which allows pedestrians and bicyclists to safely move through the street. —Caitlyn Chimento
