Rainbow Bowl

Basic Kitchen isn’t entirely vegetarian, but it is an oasis for those seeking a veg-centric menu. The beautiful redux of what most Charlestonians remember as the longtime Andolini’s is light years away from the pizza dive of yore. Today the space is clean and welcoming, almost California chic and the plates match that aesthetic. Fresh basic bowls filled with sweet potatoes and green goddess sauce sit alongside arguably the best turkey burger this city has ever seen. Dinner doesn’t stray too far from lunch but you will see items like beet spaetzle and pan-seared snapper cooked by chef/owner Ben Towill. For those looking for a filling, fueling meal that won’t leave you dragging down King Street, Basic Kitchen is the place. —Kinsey Gidick (Dish, Summer 2018)
