Being residents of the Neck, we’re always interested in what’s going on in our ’hood. And one place that’s held our interest for awhile is 1600 Meeting, which wants to be a combination marketplace, small-business incubator, design center, artist studio, and non-profit center. We’re still not really sure how the so-called creative center will come together, but we’re hoping that Awakening II: Fieldwork will give us some indication. The al fresco art show will feature artists using the exterior of the building as their performance space and canvas. Artists showing work include Lisa Abernathy, Laura Ball, Rachel Clore, Tommy Fox, Patch Whisky, Sean Williams, Matt Wilson, and others. It’s the second year for Awakening, but the folks at Enough Pie — the people behind Awakening II: Fieldwork — have changed it up. “Fieldwork steps outside of the bricks and mortar framework of 1600 Meeting,” explains Claire Johnson, director of communications and outreach at Enough Pie. “Participating artists are activating the field, porches, and more, working with the natural elements of the site to inspire their work. Additionally, you will see that many artists have chosen to collaborate with their on-site neighbors, showcasing the creative collaboration that Enough Pie aims to foster within the community.” After the art show, there’s a ticketed dinner on-site catered by Butcher & Bee. Tickets cost $25 and space is limited.
