Art on Paper

When: Feb. 6-April 5 2015
Phone: (843) 722 2706
Just because the Gibbes Museum of Art is closed for renovations doesn’t mean they’re going to miss out on their third annual Art on Paper exhibit. Nope, they’re just moving on up instead — up closer to the harbor that is. This year, the exhibit will be held at The Vendue hotel. “We felt that we had really gained momentum with the paper fair in the last two years and didn’t want to lose ground with the renovation. Without the use of the museum, we had to modify the concept of the Paper Fair,” explains Amy Mercer, Gibbes marketing and communications manger. In the past, the weekend event featured prints, watercolors, photographs, and drawings for sale by prominent American art dealers featuring works that celebrate the South. This go-around, Gibbes curators Pam Wall and Sara Arnold selected works — on paper — from local galleries Robert Lange Studios, Mary Martin Gallery, Principle Gallery, Ann Long Fine Art, Michael Mitchell, and Rebekah Jacob Gallery for the show. There won’t be the workshops, booths, food trucks like in previous Art on Paper weekends, but works will be for sale with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Gibbes Museum of Art. Complimentary wine and light hors d’oeuvres will be served. The exhibit will hang through April 5.
