Sad news from the Swell Season camp. San Francisco Weekly reported that man at a Swell Season concert at Mountain Winery in Saratoga, Cal., fell from a roof onto the stage during the band’s set on Thurs. Aug. 19. The three-story fall was an apparent suicide, according to news reports and witnesses.

Vocalist/songwriter Glen Hansard and pianist Marketa Irglova quickly left the stage with their fellow bandmembers. The audience was asked to remain seated as paramedics arrived.

Today, the Swell Season released a statement: “The band, crew and all involved with them are shocked and saddened by the unfortunate events of last night. Their hearts go out to the victim and his friends and family.”

The Swell Season performed at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center in May in support of their latest album, Strict Joy. Visit theswellseason.com for more.
