Re: “S.C. natural birth centers could face closure by state regulators

As a mother of 3, I have experienced 2 hospital births and 1 at Charleston Birth Place. My birth at CBP was by far the best birth experience. CBP Midwives empower their patients with knowledge of their bodies and allow mothers to labor in the way that she sees fit for her labor and delivery journey. My first 2 births left me in a bed in pain for 8 hours minimum, unable to walk around, unable to labor any other way but AGAINST gravity and a botched epidural that still causes back problems for me 5 years later. I was required to stay in the hospital for 2 days which to me seemed to be a tactic to rack up my bill since they made it a point to check me out AFTER 1:00pm so they could bill for an additional day. At CBP, I could walk around, sit in the tub with my husband behind me holding me and have whomever I wanted around for the birth of our son. My midwife, the ever fabulous Judy Osborne, was waiting for me at the birth center with everything necessary to labor and stayed with me from the time that I came in until I left with my husband and newborn son the next day. And after I went home, CBP sent a nurse to my home to check my son and myself....what hospital does that? Dedication is what CBP is all about. SC DHEC, take it from me, women and CBP will not back down!!! We don't care where this fight has to go, we will take it to you there. This is OUR right to birth where we want with whom we want. We won't be stifled by one incident. It is OUR RIGHT to choose...not yours.
