'Merica! The American Film Series gives viewers a taste of classic Hollywood from the 1930s to 1960s. You'll see some of the silver screen's most memorable stars in action, including Clark Gable, Rita Hayworth, Audrey Hepburn, Cary Grant, Ethel Barrymore, James Cagney, and more.

On the roster. The series includes 10 films, starting with Yankee Doodle Dandy (1946), the story of a dancing vaudevillian. Other selections include Charade, Gilda, North by Northwest, San Francisco, The Toast of New Orleans, Naughty Marietta, Showboat, Love Me Tonight, and That Midnight Kiss.

A midday respite. With film screenings throughout the festival at 1 p.m., the American Film Series is perfect for people with flexible schedules. Take a long lunch break and escape the heat at the Charleston County Public Library's main branch on Calhoun Street.
