Re: “Crave Kitchen & Cocktails

My go to brunch location! There are a number of great options for brunch, great sides, great drinks. Always dependable. The service some times isn't fantastic, which is the only thing that keeps me from giving 5-stars. I would always recommend Crave, especially for brunch.

Re: “The immigration reform bill's unspoken ills

Business loves illegal immigrants because they can be treated like slave laborers and have no avenue for recourse. Allowing floods of illegal immigrants is horrible for public services and competition. People claiming that "the free market" will handle this really just want a thumb on the scale in their favor so they can keep their cheap illegal labor at the cost of the American public.

Graham, and other republicans, are backing this bill because they are scared of the latino voting block, so they're pandering to them. This is a peace offering that the American worker and tax paying public gets to pay for. "The back of the line" is a joke, they're already here illegally. They aren't going to be sent home to wait to get in legally. This is amnesty.

Re: “S.C.'s poorest residents support the education lottery to their collective detriment

Characterizing the lottery as a regressive tax is simply inaccurate. A tax is inherently mandatory, there's nothing mandatory about playing the lottery. It's simply foolish people making foolish decisions. Attempting to blame the government for those poor decisions is disingenuous.

Furthermore, complaining about the resulting funds being spent on the less needy seems pointless. In the case of actual taxes, a disproportionate amount are paid by the middle class and spent on the poor. Are we to only spent funds on the groups who generate them? If so, the poor would surely be in trouble. Your argument is convenient for you, but it doesn't hold up when applied to the real world.

I'm about as left wing as people get in America, but your argument are weak and come off as entitled complaining. The poor need to be educated, but in a free society you don't get to complain about the results of your own poor choices when all the information is right in front of you.

Re: “The Village Tavern shuts down

This is awful news. VT was the best venue in Mount Pleasant, but it did become a pain to get to with all the construction. Really sucks.

Re: “Future Islands inspire minimalist white girl dancing

This is a bit of a disappointing review of the show. You admit you only have a passing familiarity with the band, so it's understandable. Sam's style is very theatric, it's very much his signature. Future Islands is a reincarnation of the band Art Lord and the Self Portraits, which was basically a synth pop stage show consisting of Sam going as over the top as possible with his character and the band mates standing around quietly. The band mates demeanor is pretty typical of the genre, very reminiscent of the "shoe gaze" movement. This article could have benefited from a bit of research.

You also forgot to mention Southern Femisphere. They were a pretty great fuzz rock 3/4 girl band. As I told the singer, they landed on a Husker Du/Nuetral Milk Hotel sound for me and pulled it off very well.
