Re: “Mayor Riley running for another term

He's been mayor as long as I have been alive too. In that time, I've seen him turn this city from a backwards, Southern dump into a thriving city.

When I was a kid, it wasn't safe to walk in Marion Square (and certainly not on upper King St.) Riley's then-unpopular decision to revitalize downtown fixed all that.

After Hurricane Hugo, it was his leadership that kept Charleston from turning into a post-Katrina New Orleans. When the tourists started coming back, he was the one who kept Charleston from selling its soul the way Savannah has.

Unlike pretty much every other politician in America, Riley actually thinks in the long-term. For that reason alone, he's worth supporting.
