Re: “Embracing Pagan heritage

To separate the issue of slavery from the War between the states would be absurd. To say the war's a sole issue was slavery would be even more ridiculous. The Hampton Roads Peace Conference, just months before Lee's surrender would have return things to the status quo, if the South would lay down it arms and pay its taxes. All slaves who had not served in the Union Army would be forced to return to their prior state. Slave owners would be compensated for their "property" who lost slaves. The Southern States laid in waste and Army was in taters but they refused this gracious offer by President Lincoln with absolutely no hope of victory Why?, If Slavery was the primary issue, this seem to be an excellent way of preserving that way of life. This peace offer was the last but was repeated in nearly the same form over the course war. All offers perpetuated slavery, none would abolish it. Even before the War, An amendment was offered to perpetuate slavery in the south. It passed congress with great numbers, even with the southerns state missing. President Lincoln did what no other President has done. To show his endorsement of this slavery act, signed it prior to its approval in congress. This his way of showing support for continuing slavery if it would preserve the Union and his taxes. The war broke out before the states could ratify the Amendment but it would have almost surely passed. The preservation of Union was the foremost concern of the federal government. Ironically this amendment would have been our 13th Amendment. The overwhelming desire to preserve the Union and equally strong desire to leave had many reason. Yes, slavery was one but one so insignificant that the US would have continued it forever to save the Union. I suggest all take a hard look at the Federal Constitution and the Confederate Constitution. I think you will find some surprises. The Confederate Constitution, In my opinion and many others "fixed" the flaws of current constitution and put the words many believe the founding fathers omitted from our own since they assumed it was understood. Under the Confederate Constitution, I don't think you would have had the problem with paganism co oping Christmas. The Confederate Constitution acknowledges God as the source of all sovereignty. A bitter pill for most liberals to swallow. Of Course it allowed slavery at the time it was written and many quick witted souls would point out this and say we still have slaves today if we had such a constitution. I would like to say, Our Constitution protected slavery longer then the Confederate by almost a year. And most believe if an honest count was taking of states ratifying was taken and states allowed to rescind they original vote for the 13th Amendment as some did. It would have failed even following bloodiest war in our history to end slavery, as some want you to believe. Go on believing the war was over Slavery. It is the simple answer. You might as well believe WWI was over an assignation. The Vietnam war was over North Vietnam shooting at ships in Gulf of Tonkin. The Current Irag war was over Saddam weapons of Mass destruction that he did not have. Makes life simpler to believe such half truths but for this neo confederate, I am not that simple minded. BTW, I prefer my race if you want to call me racist. I say that because generally most of friends are white and southern, not all. Do I hate others who are not white? Nope, I have friend s of All races. I dont even fill they are inferior. Is that strange for a die hard confederate. I have biracial family members., Oh my God what a black spot on my family, NOPE, I love them dearly. Am glad the North Won War, no but I will acknowledge most of the world would probably be speaking German or Russian if it had. So maybe things work out for the best...but that Confederate Constitution is a lot better then our current one, I will tell you that. Of course you only believe that if you are a Christian conservative and a libertarian. Bill Carraway Alabama
