Re: “Opinion: A personal take on Watermelongate from a parent who feels a different kind of outrage

Unsure as to why the focus is on "Watermelongate" rather than the issue at hand. As someone who grew up as a minority in this area, at a school that was predominantly white, there was both a lot of racism and racial insensitivity, both towards myself and other minorities. While I don't believe that these students did these acts with a racist intent, all included (and especially their coach , who is supposed to be the leader and mentor of the team, as well as the administrative face of the school at these games) should have know better and used at least some common sense, if nothing else.

As far as this lawsuit, I can think of nothing more absurd than the person who sued McDonald's because their coffee was too hot. To say that the school district or Chris Haire caused "harm " to these children is baffling. No specific names of children were used. No one person was singled out. I'm not sure the message the parents of these children are trying to send out other than "you can do no wrong". If they feel this strongly about it, I would hope they would choose to remove their children from AMHS. I am a parent if 2 children in the CCSD, and this whole affair sickens me to the core. People need to grow up and accept responsibility for their actions, and not respond to being told something they don't want to hear with threats and lawsuits, the benefit if which is 1. Stupidly wasting taxpayer money on frivolity due to ego and 2. Furthering this debate which honestly continues to make those involved appear more insensitive and less intelligent than they already feel like they have been made out to appear

I like my coffee hot. It's my fault if I spill it.
