Re: “City avoids free-speech concerns in effort to fix panhandling problem

I wish there were some documentation of the traffic hazard these people pose. Personally, panhandlers have actually made me a better driver, as I focus on the road out of guilt instead of looking them in the eyes.

Re: “Should officers be able to listen to music while on duty?

Perhaps if there were some kind of automatic shut off the moment a communication came through or a siren was engaged? I'm not entirely sure, but I think it's a valid question.

Re: “Undercover report: North Charleston workers express concerns over 787 quality controls

My father works for Boeing, and has been employed in the manufacturing business for decades. He has the highest standards and most incredible work ethic of anyone I know, but some of his coworkers do not. I can't tell you how many times he has related stories to me about the disinterest and laziness of people who have the privilege to work for a company such as Boeing. He has never commented on the quality of the aircraft they produce, but it only stands to reason that their attitudes are reflected in their work. I hope Boeing can turn this bad PR and their reputation around.

Re: “City officials: Charleston should not have an entertainment district

The soft closing suggestion is by far the best solution I've heard. I wish I could have been at the meeting, but I was already at the bar.

Re: “16-year-old Summerville student arrested for killing dinosaur hires lawyer

This whole thing reminds me of when I was a sophomore in HS and there was a bomb threat. We had to enter through metal detectors and have our bags searched, and one older boy thought it would be funny to bring in a bag stuffed with "weird items" such as stuffed animals and other toys. The security people weren't amused but let it fly. A teacher caught wind of the joke and had him arrested for obstruction of justice! It was ludicrous. Yes, he was an idiot, but not a criminal.
