When: Sun., Jan. 10, 3 p.m. 2010
Phone: (843) 722-2706 x18
Price: $7/members, $15/non-members

The CSO Spiritual Ensemble are getting together to bid adieu to the Gibbes exhibit, Daufuskie Island: Photographs by Jeanne Moutoussamy-Ashe. The collection of photographs, on view through Sunday, documents life on the remote island through intimate portraits of residents. It has been on view in the Gibbes Rotunda since October. Sunday’s concert, performed by the 35-member vocal group, will honor the spiritual, a historical musical form developed by African slaves in the South Carolina Lowcountry. “We are thrilled to be partnering with the CSO Spiritual Ensemble on what is sure to be a moving performance,” says Pam Wall, Gibbes associate curator of exhibitions and interpretation. “This will be the perfect ending to the Daufuskie Island exhibition and a meaningful way to honor the people of Daufuskie.” —Erica Jackson
