WHAT IT'S LIKE FOR A CHEF

Chef Frank Lee of Slightly North of Broad was featured on MSNBC.com earlier this month, recounting what it's like to host Thanksgiving dinner for up to 350 guests. "The civility of the table is being passed on from the home to the restaurants, which is interesting, because not a lot of restaurateurs take that mantle of responsibility," he told the news and entertainment website in an article called "Thanksgiving Through the Eyes of a Chef." Last week, for Thanksgiving, he and his staff spent just six hours preparing dishes such as roast turkey, prime rib, grouper, butter beans, oyster stew, pecan and pumpkin pie, and more before heading home to enjoy Thanksgiving with their families. --Katherine DuPre

KRISPY KREME SWEETENS CHRISTMAS

The saying goes that it is better to give than to receive, but receiving is fun, too. Krispy Kreme has the solution. The doughnut shop whose "Hot Doughnuts Now" sign has been luring drivers to pull off the road for years has teamed up with the Today show for a Holiday Toy Drive. When you bring in a new or unused toy for the less fortunate through Dec. 4, the nice people behind the counter will hand you a free glazed doughnut. Sweet. --KD

SIENNA OPENS FOR LUNCH

Sienna wants to offer a good Italian meal quickly enough to squeeze into your lunch hour, which should mesh well with Daniel Island's growing white-collar work force. The restaurant, which has become known for its Italian fare and extensive wine list, will open for lunch starting Dec. 1. General Manager Justin Gaskill says there are a limited number of places to go for a good lunch on the Island. So Sienna's stepping in to fill the void, offering a lunch menu with all items priced under $12. Some of Gaskill's favorite items include the Caesar salad with grilled rock shrimp or the grilled Italian flatbread with gorgonzola cheese, smoked portobello mushrooms, and olive oil-cured tomatoes. The menu also has fast and easy items such as assorted panini, burgers, and pasta. Sienna is located at 901 Island Park Drive. Lunch hours are Mon.-Fri., 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Call 881-8820 for more information. --KD
