Re: “Daniel Island Rep. Nancy Mace says Dem congresswomen wearing white "sets women back"

I guess Mace has not read up on the Women's Suffrage movement in the US.
"In demonstrations and parades, the suffragists donned white dresses meant to generate photo coverage in the daily newspapers."
It appears it had the same effect this time

Re: “Joe Six Pack: Cunningham turned away trying to take Chs. craft beer onto the U.S. House floor

I wonder how many flasks make it onto the floor?

Re: “We can make a safer city for transgender Charlestonians

We live our lives constantly wondering where the next transphobic attack will occur. Don't think for a minute that we do not see the stares and whispers as we shop or walk down the street. People may think we do not notice but we do. And many do not even care if we notice. To them we are a joke to be laughed at. Even in places we once thought of as safe we now have to be ever vigilant.

Re: “Charleston Police backtrack after initially saying trans woman's assault had nothing to do with her gender identity

The Transgender Day of Remembrance is held every year to remember trans people killed in the past year. Most of those killed in the US are trans women who are Black, Hispanic, or Native American. A trans woman from these communities has an average lifespan of 35 years.
Remember my face, because the statistics will tell you that in the next decade, I will have died violently.
An African American trans woman, as reported in The Bay Area Reporter, 6/25-7/01/2015

Re: “We Are Family's new daytime center for the homeless is trying to have it all

Kudos to all involved in the creation of All of Us. It has taken hard work but the transformation of the old Head Start building in just a few short weeks is nothing short of remarkable. Much work needs to be done and funding needs to be secured. ou can donate by going to www.waf.org. Help us help those who have fallen on hard times.
