Re: “Fundamentalist Christianity and fundamentalist Liberalism have much in common

what is also overlooked in the similarities between Christian fundamentalists and "progressive liberals " is their common belief in apocalypse. Christians have their armeggedon, while liberals have their global warming. While it is true that the earth is getting both dryer and hotter, Weve only been measuring temperature since the scientific revolution. in the middle ages drought and famine were common place. The Arthurian Legends tell us that the earth could be "sick", as well the king could be sick. I know that was more intended as an allegory for "the king and the land are one"... but I do believe that provides a clue to telling us a little about how fickle nature could be, even then before the advent of fossil fuels...etc...

Re: “Those who promise to be tough on terror ignore its root causes

Yeah, and the truth is, people just keep buying into idiocy. People seem to only care about keeping their little cubicle in order, their small sheep- pen of a life in order so that they can procure the latest version of HDTV or whatever. They are so content to sell a pound of their freedom for an ounce of security. Truth is, I hope that those who would sell liberty for security choke on their security; a fate of endless paper cuts from Real ID cards, an eternity of boredom being searched by public officials, and may they wake up every morning having to deal with their car getting towed by the city and having to deal with the parking ticket stazi all day; and of course, whether they voted Obama, McCain, or Hiltlery, I hope whoever gets elected makes the people who voted for them look like a group of complete idiots, although, they would probably be top ignorant to realize that their candidate screwed things up. I wish upon these people their greatest nightmare, the dissolution of their ignorance.

Re: “The pro-life fanatics who drive smoking bans

As much as I can respect your right to comment, FCB,I do not respect your position. Personally, yes, I am a smoker. I am trying to quit, as I know it is a stupid and unhealthy decision. The smoking ban might help me with this problem when I decide to go have a drink. The problem is, though, why should the government have the right to tell the bar I choose to go to whether or not others can smoke around me? If I know theres smoke at a bar, then when I go to that bar I am responsible for my decision to go in the first place. The problem is with stupid people like yourself who feel that it is the government's job to make your life better. If you don't like cigarette smoke, then don't go to the bar. Its really quit a much simpler solution than making laws about it.
