Re: “Citizens calling for Sheriff Cannon's resignation after gun-control speech

The role of the police is to uphold and enforce the law. If a county law is in contradiction to a state law the state law will win, if a state law is in contradiction to a federal law the federal law will win, if a federal law is in contradiction to the constitution... I.E. the 2nd amendment, then the federal law has no backing. The second amendment states "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." (ratified in 12/15/1971), 81084 days have gone by and this promise has been kept. For this was not the right to bear arms to hunt but to protect yourself and freedom FROM the government. The right is to protect yourself from the government and now, 222 years later, its a little to late for the government to take back that statement. There are people who can fire a semiautomatic rifle almost as fast as some as the automatic ones, so what if they have to reload 3 times as much going from a 30 round clip to a 15 or 10 round one. what is a few seconds after the first ten shots gonna change. The incident Connecticut can't even apply in this situation because the man did not have a child at the school for a background check, and the guns weren't even his or in the same category as the ones being banned now. Let me know what criminal would willingly give up their now illegal weapons. I fully support Al Cannon and his decision. I believe the law enforcement has a much better task on hand then to go door to door taking the guns of the law abiding citizens. We do have the freedom of speech so why should we punish someone for using that right? If anything we should be mad at the press because in reading several articles they all seemed to have a biased stand in hopes to influence the public, it seems. Now i do not mean to offend anyone but I am just stating what i believe, and though I do not agree with what some of you have to say I am willing to defend to the death your right to say it. If you have a conflict with someone you work with about what they believe it is not your obligation to have them fired but to suck it up and try to move on. To my knowledge none of you are willing to risk your life to wear the badge he has worn for his time on the force. And if you are I stand behind you. -age 18
