Re: “Baby Veronica case appealed to U.S. Supreme Court

As an adoptive parent of a 1/2 NA child, I know and get to see everyday the damage ICWA and the people that used it has caused my now 6 year old when they took her away from us for 5 months using this law as an excuse. It was not in her best interest, she was mentally abused by her blood family. We raised her from 7 months to 3.5 years old. They took her away and she was begging, screaming, and crying for us to save her. We couldn't because ICWA was used. All the people that should have advocated for her failed her and that includes the judge. They wouldn't let us talk to her at all. Thankfully, she had a social worker that wasn't afraid and pulled her out of the house. We finalized the adoption almost 1 year ago.

The Capobianos lost their daughter and their daughter lost her true parents. There is no doubt in my mind that Veronica is grieving. There was no transition plan, they just took her. Imagine what that feels like for a little girl that has only known the Capobiancos as her parents.
