Re: “Josh Groban wins us over

I can agree with Mr. Wright on a number of his observations. Groban is completely out of his element with this new musical direction. The songwriting The Illuminations cd and the amped up jazz-funk styles are ill-suited for his classically trained voice and the public is obviously not going for it. The songwriting is definitely lacking and the album has not cohesive flow. His voice is also deteriorating, which is readily evident on his loss of top range (he relies mostly on falsetto now) and the often strained sounding notes and nasality which charcterise much of his singing now. This is all the result of a poor technique, but it is sad to think that a young man with so much promise has made decisions that are wrecking his beautiful instrument. Groban only has himself to blame.

Those of you who seem to think his shows are selling out need to do their homework. Very few stats for his concerts have been divulged, but the few stats that have been published show that his shows are for the most part, nowhere near the ticket capacity.

Groban will have to do a rethink if he wants to continue to have a viable career as it is clear the typical concert going public that previously appreciated his earlier efforts do not want this shift.
