Re: “Charleston's restaurant industry faces its drinking demons

The facts are there and although I've been a chef myself nearly a decade ago, I do tend to stay away from f&b people as close friends and absolutely as girlfriends. I've had some amazing times working in kitchens and met some of the most diverse and amazing people yet sadly, wasted potential and massive alcohol/drug use is a mainstay. I'm not saying that all waitstaff and cooks are idiots... We'll leave that for the hostess. No, I just think that an idiot can do most of their jobs as long as it isnt fine dining.

Average restaurant in f&b = job. Little to no skill needed but decent money, terrible hours and weekends are forfeit. Traveling is rare.

Fine dining = profession. Not everyone has the chops to make it there. Pick your own hours, seniority and amazing $$$.

Profession means that you've received training and education. If you're waiting tables with someone between 16-19, you have a job....

Just wanted to clear that up. Cheers!

Re: “Ohioans have invaded the Lowcountry... and some folks wish they would leave

I think the main reason is that there has been an influx from Ohio recently. I'm sure the ignorance gets passed down until the offspring don't know why but they just have to keep hating. Plus it gives them the warm fuzzies to fit in, no matter what.

I've lived in the south for 25 years and Charleston for 10. Tradition is EVERYTHING to southerners. Learning and growing is gay or sissy.

P.S. I almost married an Ohioan, she was a lying succubus of a woman.... For the record.
