Re: “RESTAURANT REVIEW: Crave Kitchen & Cocktails

My dining experience at Crave was a bust. I must admit, when I walked into the place I was pleasantly surprised. The decor was hip without being ostentatious, the bar was nicely design with perfect lighting. As I am reading through the menu I was quite happy to see some unusual dishes that caught my attention, I said "alright this looks promising, a nice bar, with good food, and without the blaring music, my kind of place". However, I decided that to evaluate the place I would order some basic dishes since ordering complex dishes is not a good measure of a first impression. I decided to start with the she-crab soup, it was barely warm and with a fishy taste. There wasn't enough cherry in the soup so it was rather bland. OK, I said, let me go to the fish and chips dish, how can you screw up fish and chips ? I don't know how you can, but the 'chef' indeed managed, probably by frying the small piece in 5 day old oil. I left the restaurant pretty disappointed and wishing I had gone to the King Street Grill a mile away and had one of their PoBoy fish sandwich. I wanted to like this place because I like the look and atmosphere, but C'mon, if you can't cook a decent she-crab soup and fish and chips, how can you expect me to order anything else with any type of confidence. I can only recommend this place for drinks and hanging out, but forget the food. 2*/5*
