Re: “Sen. Glenn McConnell calls for national constitutional convention

We need a convention to address many issues besides immigration. We need to "think things through" in an open, deliberative fashion. The national discussion can begin before the convention actually begins. We have the Internet at our disposal. Now we need some leadership so that there can be 10,000 web sites with discussion and that all of the discussions can be shared in the open, in the public domain, based on a data standard which has yet to be devised. I'd advise caution at having any one web site for the discussions of what should be considered at a convention. Make a standard for sharing the data and let anyone participate. Each "node" on the network can collect whatever messages, endorsements, and so forth for their site. Nobody needs to be "in control" of the discussion. If it is centralized then it can be controlled. De-centralize by way of standards. That's where we start if we want to be wise about it. In the final analysis it is the discussion which matters most because it is what will produce the consensus necessary ( 3/4 of states ) to ratify any proposed amendments.
