Politics, Public Affairs & Personalities

Much has been said about facial hair in politics in the past year. A curse has purportedly kept mustached presidential candidates from the Oval Office. There hasn't been a mustache in the White House since William Taft, and it wasn't so lucky for him, either. In early '08, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson left the Democratic race and became, like Al Gore before him, a brawny lumberjack. But Wall Street Journal commentator Joesph Rago notes whiskers have made a comeback, particularly among progressives. There are 26 Democratic mustaches in Congress, compared to three Republicans. Dems also have nine beards, compared to the GOP's three.
