Have a brush with fame while warming up to dozens of chili recipes.

Local celebrities will be putting on their chef’s hats and aprons to serve up their own favorite chili concoctions to help homeless animals and claim bragging rights. Contestants range from politicians Representative Tim Scott, Charleston County Councilwoman Colleen Condon, and Charleston County Councilman J. Elliot Summey to morning show hosts Laura Lee and Heather from 98X and many more. Past “Best in Show” winners TV 2 anchors Brad Franko and Brendan Clark will be there to defend their titles.

The City of Charleston Fire Department will sponsor a competition between their fire houses and the winner will compete against the local celebrities, who will be battling for the title of Charleston Chili King or Queen. The judges of the competition are local celebrities in their own right. Chef Frank Lee of Slightly North of Broad and Chef Bob Waggoner of “U Cook with Chef Bob” will decide upon the winners.

While adults chow down on chili, oysters, and hot dogs and wash it down with beer and wine, the kids can play in the Kids Fun Zone. Tickets are available online, at the Charleston Animal Society shelter, and at the door. All proceeds benefit the humane programs of the Charleston Animal Society.
