Greek Festival

When: May 8-10 2009
Phone: (843) 577-2063
Price: $3
Everyone has a little Greek freak inside, just dying to get out. This is you chance — let out your inner Zeus at Greek Fest. You may not be able to visit Greece this summer, but you can still get a little taste of Athens at this annual festival. The party starts Friday and, like any good Grecian affair, lasts for three days. Stop by for lunch or the whole day — they won’t kick you out. Get your fill of yummy Greek food at the grills (gyros, kebobs, mousaka, and more), sip on some wine at the Greek wine tastings, and don’t forget to nosh on baklava! Bouzouki extraordinaire, George Anastopoulis, will be entertaining the crowds along with two live bands churning out authentic Greek tunes to get you in the spirit. Watch folk dance performers of all ages throughout the day (in authentic costumes of course) while you’re chowing down on feta, olives, and pitas, and check out the cultural exhibits, shops, and church tours if you’re in an ecclesiastic mood. With tickets running just three bucks, or one lonely George Washington if you’re a senior citizen or student, it’s one of the cheapest ways to spend the day around Charleston. —Candice Summers
