My how the mighty have fallen. Quite a testimony to CNN when you have the Charleston City Paper bagging on them.

Re: “Plans for new office space in Charleston’s Old City Jail head to Board of Architectural Review

The stairwells are UGLY! Can't we find a way to make them blend in a bit more with the exterior of the building? Get the architects of that shut-down Clemson building out of the mix and hire someone from Charleston.

Re: “Is Mex 1 Coastal Cantina building a new location in NoMo?

No Mo is growing. I just hope that whenever anyone else opens up some new places, they allow for parking. It is becoming hard to find a space near the Tattooed Moose, and down the street at those new bars. With all the open land available now, I would hope they convert some of it into parking. How about the Union Headquarters for overflow, as they usually don't have crowds in the building in the evenings, and it would be a good gesture of the Union to help their neighbors.

Re: “Plans for new office space in Charleston’s Old City Jail head to Board of Architectural Review

In NY I worked in a State owned historic Site that included a Gilded Age mansion. Part of the mansion was used for Office Space while the rest was renovated to be historically accurate and open to the public for tours. If done right this is a good way to preserve the historic site accurately while allowing Public Access in a fiscally responsible way.

I believe it's very important to preserve the history in this beautiful area. The fact that it's a mere two hundred years old is inconsequential.

Re: “Plans for new office space in Charleston’s Old City Jail head to Board of Architectural Review

ha ha ha. That is going to be a great place to work 50 hour work weeks.... I would work overtime there just to be able to say that. This may be a wonderful Idea! I don't know I can't decide for sure...

People in other countries turn 1000 year old buildings into cell phone stores these days so who are we to think we need to preserve memories of the ENTIRE old jail from 200 years ago?

Urban Sprawl is the devil... At least they are not bulldozing more nature in Johns island to build yet another Harris Teeter shopping complex i guess....

I don't know what is the lesser of two evils I guess... Loss of a historic landmark or urban sprawl...The old City Jail is also one of the attractions of our entire tourism industry.
The old Cigar factory looks pretty nice these days tho....

Re: “Higher police wages could reduce unjust interactions with minorities

The prison system in this country is a horrible problem already. The United States has more prisoners per citizen than ANY OTHER COUNTRY ON EARTH.

I guess the next thing they will start are wars to kill off all of the "undesirables" using a religion that was copied from a native people of the middle east...

In Columbia the politicians and businessmen do satanic magic rituals all together while claiming to be Israelites of the bible in secret using torches, cloaks, and group chanting out in the woods..

The truth is BOEING, LOCKHEED MARTIN, and Xe services are all enslaving the planet by causing wars to sell more weapons.

The airport when you fly back to the USA from other countries looks like a concentration camp prison with barbed wire fence everywhere and intense security checks...

That is not how it is in other countries until the USA threatens them and causes destruction to their businesses. Ayn RAND CALLED IT FAIR COMPETITION, but that was before a sigma six accounting principle became the norm.

Corporates use your google access to build your world around you like DISNEYLAND (where they learn the tricks of being persuasive aka "mind control").

Sex sells, addictive chemicals sprayed in our food like corn syrup! The united states processed food is GARBAGE just like what they feed the inmates, but with less corn syrup as punishment.

The FORTUNE 500 corporate bosses don't want the American people to all realize that they are watched over and controlled like PROPERTY through an organization strictly based on MASS PRODUCTION.

Dude, You realize your writing articles to a bunch of people that have to put the blinders on to sleep at night right?

Re: “Charleston's printed accolades may be doing more harm than good

If Charleston city, county, and the surrounding municipalities did nothing more to entice tourism, how long would it take for us to lose our tourism industry? That is: no new hotels downtown or along the harbor, no new musems, curtailed ad and advocacy campaigns. The word is out on Charleston. We have a spectacular product that vacationers and history buffs alike seek out actively. That isn't a delicate rose that needs new layers of greenhouse to be added continuously.

We also have a metropolis in which people have to work in the hospitality but also myriad other industries. The people that live and work here form the backbone of what the tourists come for. As Mr. Green also said, we're the ones fleshing out all the other commercial, industrial, and governmental entities that are flourishing in the 843. Why must we wait on decade-or-more delays for development to benefit us? Example: I lived off Clements Ferry Road from 2005-15, and during most of that time paid a sales tax bump that was earmarked for roadway and infrastructure improvements to that corridor. What I saw instead was a decade of foot-dragging as that road transformed into an 8-mile parking lot for Mount Pleasant and Cainhoy industrial commuters.

We no longer should be gutting ourselves to get new industries here, such as with the absurd $75,000-per-worker tax incentives the state provided to Volvo when all this development comes with drastic impacts that are not accommodated by the developers. Go ahead and tell me to move out if I don't like it; that won't change the fact that you're stuck in traffic for 1-2 hours of your life every day.

Re: “Stegelin: Russki business

The president will never, ever admit hacking took place. Why? Because he feels it de-legitimizes his election and no matter the proof, he will never relent because of his narcissistic ego. To be truthful, the hacking did affect the voter turnout and the misinformation spread, certainly changed votes. So HRC would have taken the EC had the Russians not interfered - there's no doubt in my mind. That was the whole point of the Russian hacking because Russia was SCARED of HRC, which is certainly not something that can be said of Trump. And this denial will affect national security because it gives Putin Carte Blanche to proceed with wordly atrocities. It rewards his illegal and inhumane aggression to destroy the sovereignty of surrounding nations to further his power and wealth, which only goes to make Russia the new super-power and the USA the laughing stock of the world. Trump's an ineffective protector due to his vanity and greed.

Re: “Higher police wages could reduce unjust interactions with minorities

Tom Martin - Most minor crimes already have no bail requirements and defendants are release of their own recognizance. But could you please tell us how much the judge should reduce the bail of a suspected child murder if the individual has little or no money? And if the person has no money, does it really matter if a bail of $500,000 is dropped to $250,000? Generally, an individual charged with first degree murder will be held without bond pending trial. Bail is not and never has been based on the "ability to pay". Reasonable bond is not to be denied any defendant; however, what is reasonable depends on the charge and the likelihood someone may flee, not how much money they have.

Re: “Stegelin: Russki business

Why do we hate Russians? I like Russia! Awesome place even to just visit. Is the cold war just an excuse to kill everyone between here and russia off?

Stop playing CHESS in the middle east (with ISrael as your queen) USA before you cause a war nobody can back away from or win.

Stop causing ISIS mercenaries to kill innocent people with weapons purposely left in IRAQ. Stop the genocide! The threat from these people is BULLSHIT, and an excuse to sell weapons.

What criminal SATANISTS have been running this country since after WW2 anyways?
Talk about the promised land being a LIE.
