Re: “Publisher of James Dobson, the anti-gay founder of Focus on the Family, releasing Tim Scott and Trey Gowdy's book

At least the SPLC actually works for a living. Their record of taking down hate groups and standing up for the underrepresented speaks for itself. The FRC is just another parasitic, gleefully divisive, purely partisan Washington lobbying group. Their only excuse to exist is to hustle whitebread sharia law to the tabloid addled culture war dupes.

Re: “Halls Chophouse

Halls is for dumb tourists only. All of the negative comments on this board are true. The food is average, the prices are high and the four owners are a pain in the butt. Please stay away from this horrible place.

Re: “Charleston named No. 1 U.S. city by Travel + Leisure, loses top spot in world

Charleston does have it's fair share of hospitality inns and still building more. Beaches are nearby and typical city life with that laid back feel abounds. Not to mention fine dining within a stone's throw of each other. It's going to be at the top for some time to come.

Re: “Workshop offers an around-the-world array of options

That's a pretty apt description, Ima Oldman. Slice was decent, and that was what we intended to get when me and a work associate went, but we did not find it initially as it sits off next to the coffee shop and had no signage. We ended up at Pink Bellies. I had the pork noodle bowl, which was not bad, but small portion for $11. I was still hungry enough to eat two slices when we finally found them. The location reminded me of a college food court. Not a bad concept, but seating was NOT plentiful when we went, we ended up outside eating on some art cube for a table. A brewery was opening up though and that itself may draw me back to try some of the other kitchens.

Re: “Publisher of James Dobson, the anti-gay founder of Focus on the Family, releasing Tim Scott and Trey Gowdy's book

Conveniently left out are the details about how the highly suspect and partisan Southern Poverty Law Center routinely generates a climate of hatred against opponents of the radical lefts social justice agenda, labeling right of center groups and individuals (Ben Carson) which they don't like as hate groups/haters. Their opposition to the Family Research Council is particularly troubling and includes their motivating activist Floyd Corkins in August 2012 to embarked on a plan to commit mass murder at the Council's Headquarters that resulted in him shooting a security guard before he could harm anyone else. Corkins later said he chose the Family Research Council based upon statements of the Law Center and that he also planned to target other organizations that oppose gay marriage.

Citing them as a source is like using Charlie Manson as an analyst of Beatles songs.

Re: “Publisher of James Dobson, the anti-gay founder of Focus on the Family, releasing Tim Scott and Trey Gowdy's book

Keep tell yourself that. Your own piece contradicts that since you acknowledge that this same publisher also publishes "translations of the Bible, self-help books, ecclesiastical spy, romance novels" as well as books by "Chuck Norris, former NFL coach Tony Dungy". They all fall under your "unifying principles" claim?

They gave you an assignment to write about the launching of a book, you turned into a wandering sophomoric attempt to turn public opinion against someone through the appearance of objective reporting or editorializing. Hack, meet thyself.

Foghorn (et al), if a publisher claims its authors and titles represent a set of unifying principles and two of its authors are politicians elected to represent South Carolinians, I think it's relevant to take a look at other authors with purportedly the same unifying principles, especially if they are as influential as Dobson.

Re: “Charleston City Council again backs plan for major increase in workforce housing requirements

Context is key, Ima correctly points out. So I looked up The State of the Nation's Housing (http://www.jchs.harvard.edu/research/state…) to compare the figures in this article to the general case:
In Charleston: 19% of renters are moderately burdened, 23% are severely burdened
In the South: 22% are moderately burdened, 25% are severely burdened
In the Nation: 23% are moderately burdened, 25% are severely burdened

So we are basically just above par with our region and the nation.

Caveat: Table W-13 of that report shows that the 42% is actually the combined total of moderate and severely burdened renters, that our moderate portion is 19.3%.

File under "meh." I misread the headline, thinking that James Dobson himself was publishing it. That these two political opportunists have become friends is about as surprising as smoke at a bbq restaurant.

Re: “Publisher of James Dobson, the anti-gay founder of Focus on the Family, releasing Tim Scott and Trey Gowdy's book

Tim Scott is culturally, a "privileged straight whitey" and now I know why - his close, long-standing friendship with Trey Gowdy. Hi, nice to meet y'all.

How to react when a "privileged whitey" enters your world? Say hi, nice to meet you.
How to react when "trans-gender-ism" enters your world? Say hi, nice to meet you.
How to react when a "straight" enters your world? Say hi, nice to meet you.
How to react when "anyone not like you" enters your world? Say hi, nice to meet you.
How to react when a "bigot" enters your world? Say hi, nice to meet you.

It's called respect.

Sam, what a half-ass hit piece. Character assassination by association.

Here's some assistance for your next junior high gossip tripe, the same publisher of Curious George, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, also publishes Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf. Maybe you can attempt to shock us by connecting the dots between the two.

I always cringe when we go after books and publishers. This anti LGBTQ Oxygen thief is reprehensible scum. But, indicting anybody based on who the publishers are (and I hate what the bigots stand for) is not good. It healthy.
