Re: “UPDATE: 30+ Charleston restaurants have signed on to the Strawless Summer Challenge

I think this is a fantastic idea. But you're still going to have people who want to have a straw. For those people the restaurant should buy bags of Twizzlers so that people could bite off each end and use the Twizzler as a straw it works and it's edible

Re: “Support your neighborhood cafe, or you may lose it

Affordability is the main reason I don't go to neighborhood places like Park Cafe, Little Jacks, Edmunds, B&B, etc on the regular.... they are just too pricey for regular dinner meals, regardless of how tasty their food may be. A couple $3 tacos with free chips and salsa from Santis is definitely more accessible.

Re: “The Agenda: RiverDogs say they're sorry for Tebowing; Norman wins close SC-5 contest; Clemson license plates

Tim did not get where he is by being a cry baby. He can handle anything the promoters of the Riverdogs can dish out....and then some. Believe me, he is basking in the limelight and his fellow members of the team are really enjoying the full houses he is bringing in. The old saying about any kind of publicity is good...even bad publicity...fits Tim to a "T". Good luck, Tim, and I hope your future is in baseball.

Re: “First-time candidate announces Democratic challenge to Mark Sanford by standing against Nancy Pelosi

Of course he will support Pelosi...especially if he ever wants any money from the DNC. That woman is a liability to the DNC, and will watch it fall further and further into disrepair in the next year. Why any Democrat, especially one with no name, would try and challenge Sanford is questionable. He'll spend a lot of folks' hard-earned money from the Snowflakes and Complainers of the libertards, and then fall flat on his face.

Save yourself time and money and wait until the DNC can show itself to be a member of a club that anyone would want to be a part of.

Don't get me wrong...I like Jack's Cafe...but you can whip up most of the stuff on their menu with cheap ingredients you already have in your kitchen. There's a reason why it's affordable. You can't really compare Jack's to other non-diner type restaurants.

Re: “Charleston city leaders clash over specialized audit for racial bias in police department

Whoever this religious group is, I doubt they will get anything but lip service when they "demand" this and "demand" that. Are they willing to fund a "special audit? No, I doubt it. They obviously were formed to irritate the City of Charleston, and have done so in a huge way. I hope the City Council, despite a few backers of the CAJM's wishes, stays on track and does what is best for the city, and not what is best for this minor league bunch of complainers.

Re: “Support your neighborhood cafe, or you may lose it

I like Park Cafe, but I am a bruncher. I will also comment that Rutledge Cab is not what it used to be. The old menu was much better. The last time I ate there I did not finish my meal. It was overly spiced. In addition, the service is not what it used to be.

Re: “Support your neighborhood cafe, or you may lose it

If local cafes want to be frequented by locals, their prices should reflect the local standards of living, not the incomes of tourists they want to attract. If you treat locals right, they'll treat you right back - evidenced by all the years of Jack's Cafe in action.

Re: “The Charleston RiverDogs expertly trolled Tim Tebow all weekend

A lot more than what is reported in your story. I posted the following on my own FB page regarding the incident:

My family and I have been going to Charleston RiverDogs games for ten years now. We moved to Summerville in 2006, started going to games the next Spring.

Both of my daughters have grown up at The Joe. Our Charlie T. Riverdogs mascot hat is always a hit (they haven't sold this hat in years so we always get comments). We always buy lots of (boiled) peanuts and cracker jacks... and we root (root, root) for our home team.

Face painter Susan Fedor has probably paid for a vacay with the amount of money we've spent on paintings and balloons over the years.

So it was with the usual fervor that I arrived at The Joe last Friday. Tebow was the cherry on top because I am a Gator. Fans were lined up waiting to get a glimpse of him. Kids stood watching pregame warm ups, baseballs in their little hands, hoping for an autograph and / or a pic with him.

Then the game started.

At first I, like everyone else, laughed at the shenanigans. The Columbia Fireflies players were all dubbed "Not Tim Tebow" on the Jumbotron. HALLELUJAH played loudly when Tebow went to bat. (The church version, not the Panic! At The Disco version!)

But then they kept it up.

On and on, they kept pushing the line. The other players for the Fireflies were basically made fun of for being nameless nobodies living in the shadow of the second coming of Christ. Seriously.

The NAME THE FIREFLIES game was ridiculous. They plucked a young lady wearing a #TeamTebow shirt from the stands and stood her atop the Fireflies dugout. They offered her a dollar for every one of their team members she could name.

She named one. Guess who it was. This was followed by much guffawing from the announcers.

And this wasn't the only game played to mocked the 'nameless' members of the 'Columbia Tim Tebows' team. Yeah, the Charleston announcer called them that.

Charlie T. Riverdog mocked the 'Tebowing' fad and donned eye black.

The antics quickly crossed the line from good-natured ribbing to out-right bullying of a man (and his teammates) that brought in the Riverdogs' largest crowds (and biggest paychecks) of the season.

We try to teach kids to be fair and have good sportsmanship. But the kids in attendance this weekend saw something else. Anna even asked me why they were 'picking on' Tim Tebow so much.

The Post and Courier's Jeff Hartsell tweeted the following Sunday: "6,557 out to see Tim Tebow and @ColaFireflies v. RiverDogs, bringing 3-game total to 21,145. 3 biggest crowds of season for @ChasRiverDogs"

The Riverdogs were selling standing-room-only spots. They had Tebow Fireflies shirts for sale in the crowded gift shop. Beer, peanuts, and nachos were going like mad. Money was being exchanged hand over fist.

And yet they still bullied Tebow. And his team.

As a longtime Lowcountry resident and Riverdogs fan, I was embarrassed. I left The Joe Friday night completely disgusted, having witnessed a low I would have expected from the Greenville Drive, but not from *my* team. I vowed not to go back.

So to Tim Tebow, his teammates, coaches, and trainers, and to visiting Fireflies fans: I am deeply sorry. That is not how we treat people in Charleston. That is not who we are.

Re: “First-time candidate announces Democratic challenge to Mark Sanford by standing against Nancy Pelosi

Stanford is a less than perfect candidate, but Cunningham while "saying" he will not voting for Pelosi as leader, will happily fall in line, follow the direction and vote with those of his colleagues Keith Ellison, Hank "Flipping Guam" Johnson, Maxine Waters, Jan Schakowski, Jim McDermontt and our own John Lewis.

A dressed up liberal pretending to have financial restraint, just knows how to get his hand in your pocket easier. To mangle an expression, better the lesser angel you know, than the devil in sheep's clothing.

Re: “Victoria Aveyard's Red Queen will hit the big screen soon

Is there a reason that this book series is so much like the series The Grisha Trilogy and the Six of Crows series? Both of these series are from Leigh Bardugo. Victoria Aveyard even has two characters that are named Caz and Brecker, while in Leigh Bardugo's series Six of Crows, there is one character named Kaz Brekker. I was just wondering if Victoria and Leigh were, like, working together? Or did they copy each other? Just wondering.

Re: “Hampton Park was once home to bison, otter, and even a lion

I attended the The Citadel from 1968-72. Many times we would walk through the park on the way to the italian pizzeria a few blocks past the park. It was sad to see that lion...
Sometimes at night I could hear the lion from my open window at school. It sounded so forlorn, as if it had been forgotten.

The RiverDogs act like classless asses, and the Charleston City Paper writers, never one not to pipe in and pile on, wants to make sure everyone doesn't forget who the real classless asses are in town.

Re: “The Charleston RiverDogs expertly trolled Tim Tebow all weekend

Charleston has hit a new low. When did their so called "sports fans" become such simple minded groupies. Is it the acceptance of behavior that we so often over looked because some one professes to be an "athlete" or is it the liberal trash that the Post and Courier is known for? Have the powers that be been more interested in money than preserving what at one time was known as "The Holy City" but has now become a place unrecognizable to it's own citizens. There is only one place to take children to watch true athletes participate in sporting events and that is The Citadel. Competition at the Citadel is not about acting like undisciplined children but growing the leaders of tomorrow.

Re: “First-time candidate announces Democratic challenge to Mark Sanford by standing against Nancy Pelosi

You know your old when you can remember Mark Sanford railing against career politicians, and demanding Bill Clinton resign because he broke his vows marriage, but I still can't understand why the 1st district can't do any better than reelecting
this self absorbed flake after he stole taxpayer money to visit his mistress while he was supposed to be running the state. Not to mention he enlisted in the SC National Guard to set an "example" for his sons, than promptly quit once his unit was called up for deployment in Iraq. Not much if any of a sense of duty or honor in him. Good luck to his opponents.

Re: “Charleston has taken positive steps since the Emanuel shooting

What loophole? There is no loophole. Nothing to close. The nut who did this terrible thing underwent a background check. No law was broken. The term "loophole" has become a democrat talking point just as many other terms have been hijacked to mean something other than what they are. Let's be clear. Leftists don't give a hoot about the nuts, felons and terrorists. What they really want is to keep tabs on transfers between mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, uncles, cousins, friends, and neighbors.

They're after inheritances, bequeathals and gifts. They're also after the sales of inherited collections, however small they are. The goal is to disarm the public within one generation. New York, California, et al., already have begun by comparing death certificates to permits and taking guns from widows. They need to intimidate and control us because we're the source of all the money. Blackstone nailed the bottom line when he affirmed, The natural right of resistance and self-preservation, when the sanctions of society and laws are found insufficient to restrain the violence of oppression.
