Re: “Are short-term rentals really bad for Charleston?

Mr. Hendrix you sure do have a lot of built up aggression against Mr. Green, based on your previous comments from his other articles where you are mostly bashing him. How about you contact City Paper and see if they'll give you a chance to write an article? You seem to believe you're an expert on everything Mr. Green writes and the city of Charleston, so why don't you contact CP and see if you can get a feature instead of having to leave comment after comment to get your close-minded, bitter messages across. My goodness, who has broken your heart? Ps...I'm sure Mr. Green would be willing to put in a good word at CP for you whenever you're ready to write your own op-ed piece . Good day!

I mean, since you seem to be an expert on everything Mr. Green writes, and the city of Charleston, why don't you contact CP and see if you can get a feature instead of having to leave comment after comment--oh, I forgot, they want people who can actually write and respectfully disagree about a subject, two areas where you are clearly weak. Take care now!

Re: “Are short-term rentals really bad for Charleston?

The previous comments suggests that his property rights are being taken away by not being able to operate a short term rental. Wrong! His property rights, which he knew when he purchased this property, was to use it solely for residential purposes and not commercial, such as short term rentals, bars, restaurants, and 100 other prohibited uses. The only person deprived of their property rights by a change in the law to allow short term rentals are the surrounding property owners, who purchased their property on the basis that the property next-door was limited by zoning to residential uses.

Re: “Are short-term rentals really bad for Charleston?

"But it sounds like a call to police/livability would have solved your problem."

You don't think the entire block called the police and the livability court? They took months to even acknowledge the problem. When the city finally did something, the judge said the city needed to settle the issue once and for all before he fined the owner.

"not unlike how pre-civil rights era Charleston treated African Americans and their basic rights to life, liberty and happiness."

You're comparing short-term rental regulation in neighborhoods - in houses that are often worth millions - with Jim Crow and the systematic brutalization of African Americans after the Civil War? Let me throw this out there: You're an idiot.

Re: “The Americano restaurant in Mt. Pleasant is for sale

The place sucked ! Food was just ok atmosphere was good prices were not to bad but it was the food. The menu was missing the Cuban feel it seemed more Mexican then Cuban. Had it really stuck with the authentic Cuban food I think it would've done really well. As a local I can tell you other locals so much as just another Mexican restaurant trying to Petray itself as Cuban.

Re: “The Americano restaurant in Mt. Pleasant is for sale

Maybe more people would support there business if they supported the other small local businesses that provided them services by paying their over due bills to them :)

I can't get over this... like...Why do you feel that this article should be about your lack of judgment? Like... who the hell do you think you are? lol ?? The people want to read about Hank Williams Jr... not about the prissy feelings that fosters some snobby reporter.

.... and I'm glad to see a narcissistic little prick like you centering a Hank Jr article all around you and your tiny wittle feelings (like anybody gives a fuck btw).

Grow up, kid and take notes. Lead, follow, or get out of the way. Jesus.

Re: “Are short-term rentals really bad for Charleston?

Hey Mr. Hendrix, sorry for your experience. But it sounds like a call to police/livability would have solved your problem. But you'd probably rather make sure NO Charleston homeowners can rent their property out, responsible or not. It's almost like you're saying, "well there was a spill in aisle four, so naturally...no more groceries for anyone." Lee Batchelder explained at the most recent meeting of the task force that there have been ZERO (that's right ZERO) calls about owner-occupied B&B's. Yet because of fear-mongering and knee-jerk reactions by a few "concerned citizens", the task force is now talking about restricting even bed and breakfasts in an authoritarian manner, not unlike how pre-civil rights era Charleston treated African Americans and their basic rights to life, liberty and happiness.

The Charleston yoga community is truly a wonderful & inclusive family of diverse people. The teachers I've had the pleasure of practicing with are consistent in their faithfulness to the roots of yoga & inspiring in the way they each bring their own personality to the practice!

Just to clarify, it's Benjamin's daughter, Arlen, from her first marriage in Cuba, who is named after the Sandinista revolutionary Arlen Siu.

Re: “Are short-term rentals really bad for Charleston?

"The City of Charleston recently concluded four listening sessions which revealed that Charleston residents are generally in favor of allowing homeowners..."

"the majority of the city has expressed a desire in seeing develop, according to listening session data."

Well hot damn, that's good enough for me! What's more scientific than some "listening sessions," right Dwayne?

Hey, buddy, get one of those airbnb houses next door and let me know how much you like it. We literally had tour buses rolling up on Rutledge Avenue for parties. It was fantastic. Idiots pumping music and having a good ole fashioned hoot five feet from where people sleep. Guys with no shirts on sitting on the porch threatening anyone who said anything about them parking on the sidewalk. You'd no doubt love it, Mr. Green. And speaking of your undying love of property rights, can I put in a pig farm and strip club next to your house? If I own the property, why should you object?

Hey, folks at the City Paper, just have a software program take over writing for Dwayne Green. A bot could write something just as predictable and inane as Dwayne without all the lawyerly dissembling.
