Thanks to Jean-Marie and Gwylene for their many years of bringing people together for interesting and meaningful discussions of important social justice issues in the Charleston community.

Re: “Charleston's printed accolades may be doing more harm than good

If Charleston city, county, and the surrounding municipalities did nothing more to entice tourism, how long would it take for us to lose our tourism industry? That is: no new hotels downtown or along the harbor, no new musems, curtailed ad and advocacy campaigns. The word is out on Charleston. We have a spectacular product that vacationers and history buffs alike seek out actively. That isn't a delicate rose that needs new layers of greenhouse to be added continuously.

We also have a metropolis in which people have to work in the hospitality but also myriad other industries. The people that live and work here form the backbone of what the tourists come for. As Mr. Green also said, we're the ones fleshing out all the other commercial, industrial, and governmental entities that are flourishing in the 843. Why must we wait on decade-or-more delays for development to benefit us? Example: I lived off Clements Ferry Road from 2005-15, and during most of that time paid a sales tax bump that was earmarked for roadway and infrastructure improvements to that corridor. What I saw instead was a decade of foot-dragging as that road transformed into an 8-mile parking lot for Mount Pleasant and Cainhoy industrial commuters.

We no longer should be gutting ourselves to get new industries here, such as with the absurd $75,000-per-worker tax incentives the state provided to Volvo when all this development comes with drastic impacts that are not accommodated by the developers. Go ahead and tell me to move out if I don't like it; that won't change the fact that you're stuck in traffic for 1-2 hours of your life every day.

Re: “Stegelin: Russki business

The president will never, ever admit hacking took place. Why? Because he feels it de-legitimizes his election and no matter the proof, he will never relent because of his narcissistic ego. To be truthful, the hacking did affect the voter turnout and the misinformation spread, certainly changed votes. So HRC would have taken the EC had the Russians not interfered - there's no doubt in my mind. That was the whole point of the Russian hacking because Russia was SCARED of HRC, which is certainly not something that can be said of Trump. And this denial will affect national security because it gives Putin Carte Blanche to proceed with wordly atrocities. It rewards his illegal and inhumane aggression to destroy the sovereignty of surrounding nations to further his power and wealth, which only goes to make Russia the new super-power and the USA the laughing stock of the world. Trump's an ineffective protector due to his vanity and greed.

Re: “Higher police wages could reduce unjust interactions with minorities

Tom Martin - Most minor crimes already have no bail requirements and defendants are release of their own recognizance. But could you please tell us how much the judge should reduce the bail of a suspected child murder if the individual has little or no money? And if the person has no money, does it really matter if a bail of $500,000 is dropped to $250,000? Generally, an individual charged with first degree murder will be held without bond pending trial. Bail is not and never has been based on the "ability to pay". Reasonable bond is not to be denied any defendant; however, what is reasonable depends on the charge and the likelihood someone may flee, not how much money they have.

Why do we hate Russians? I like Russia! Awesome place even to just visit. Is the cold war just an excuse to kill everyone between here and russia off?

Stop playing CHESS in the middle east (with ISrael as your queen) USA before you cause a war nobody can back away from or win.

Stop causing ISIS mercenaries to kill innocent people with weapons purposely left in IRAQ. Stop the genocide! The threat from these people is BULLSHIT, and an excuse to sell weapons.

What criminal SATANISTS have been running this country since after WW2 anyways?
Talk about the promised land being a LIE.
YOu people are not even Jewish like me so you are nothing but scary crazy dellusional religious NUTS.

I like this article, just don't get me started about traffic getting worse and worse while there is more and more expansion into nature with no end in site just to cater to a bunch of 58 year olds from out of town buying million dollar homes in kiawah. THe place is starting to resemble jurassic park. That is what I call IOP and Kiawah now. Jurassic park. All the retirees and ugly materialistic "blonde" women,.

Pool cleaning anyone?

Re: “Charleston's printed accolades may be doing more harm than good

SC
Last undeveloped wilderness coastline in the north east! Get your property while its red hot! Perfect place to retire/work/ or marry! Help us rape nature with an insatiable appetite to turn charleston into another Jersey Shore, LA, or Chicago. THE GDP IS all that matters. Another couple of opportunities produced in SC this year included Harris Teeter's greedy expansion from FOODSTAMP MONEY. Also a big boom in convenience stores were reported as Liquor/tobacco/porn/caffeinated sales spiked as employees work 60 hour weeks to pay the ever rising costs of living.

Let's let the Bankers name another over priced newly constructed development using the words "plantation" like brickyard plantations in MT pleasant. Anyone who spends 400,000 dollars on a house that would be 85,000 anywhere else in a hurricane zone is an IDIOT from out of town.

Your GLOBAL corporate masters will eat your children for a 1.3 percent increase in their stock options, and fire you while laughing at your broke ass like DONALD TRUMP. Who cares anyways? They have ROBOTS to do all of your jobs quicker and cheaper anyways, and for everything else they can hire mexicans. Your all lucky our bank masters still let us labor for them in the sun, because if they run out of uses for you another pre planned WORLD WAR 2 will erase the excess humans like you neatly off the planet! Enjoy the civil war of humanity! At least for now they send all the killing overseas like our jobs.

The reason Charleston is so big is the same reason the IRAQ WAR STARTED

In reality it is just the CIA trying to get less people to go back and forth from other places like mexico because its a security risk.
Eat those CARROTS! The commercials say they are good for eyesight, but in reality the USA just produced too many damn carrots that year and needed to sell them.

Of course City paper isn't in on it or anything, by constantly regurgitating the pleasantville bullcrap. This RAG is just an advert for strip clubs anyways.

nobody cares. Does anyone else know any cool websites/aps that can help us not get screwed by our corporate overlords who work for/advertise in city paper? Why does EVERYTHING need regulation? The HOA downtown doesn't allow air b2b so why are you advertising this to people?

Re: “Higher police wages could reduce unjust interactions with minorities

This bail system is ridiculous. For one thing, a large percentage of murder suspects are guilty, so for our safety, they should not be released on bail, no matter if they can pay millions in bail. Similarly with rape suspects and child molestation suspects. On the other hand, those suspected of minor crimes, misdemeanors, should just be trusted that hopefully they will show up for the trial and not disappear. After all, if they are convicted, they might spend only a few months or a few weeks in prison. Or if we want to keep the bail system, then make it proportionate to the suspect's amount of wealth and amount of income, so even the very poor can afford to pay the bail.

Shep is nothing more than a low rate actor from Hilton Head who pretends he is from Charleston for the purposes of filming Southern Charm. When did he "move" to Charleston, when he was cast for Southern Charm, familiar situation for all but 2 of the cast members.

Re: “Halls Chophouse

Hall's is top notch across the board; frankly, I think that these reviews shooting the place down are pretty mean-spirited. The Hall family is a class act, and I have very good memories of their kindness to me and my wife and young daughter. Good people bringing top notch food to Charleston.

But hey, haters are gonna hate...

Re: “Charleston's printed accolades may be doing more harm than good

Seems like a good train/trolley system fixes all of this. Trains from airport to city center, from outer areas to city center, from the city to the beaches. Almost every thing listed in the second paragraph is fixed with this solution.

What's wrong with paper straws?? I used those all the time when I was a kid! They are biodegradable.
They made paper straws up until the Sixties when they were replaced by plastic straws.
