Re: “The One-Pot wonder that is Raccoon Stew

Come on this has got to stop. And people wonder why we have no respect for life and each other. And shame on the person who approved this photo for this.

"Americans eat a lot of things you might not approve of."

Got to agree with artrogue on this one, but would amend it to say a lot of cultures eat things others may not approve of. If you're any type of meat eater, you pretty much shouldn't judge someone else for eating another type of meat (cannibalism probably excepted).

That said, it really took a dead raccoon photo for people to get outraged at this gal's "journalism?" Always good to know there the line is, I guess.

Re: “The One-Pot wonder that is Raccoon Stew

the image is questionable, but what isn't being mentioned is how all animals are slaughtered to feed us. Where does the meat in the grocery stores come from? From a slaughtered animal. Just because someone likes raccoons, or even squirrels, doesn't mean that someone using them to feed themselves or even family is wrong. I don't think the image was a good idea, but what someone does for food is of no concern to anyone but that person. As someone else said, freedom of choice.

Re: “The One-Pot wonder that is Raccoon Stew

Did you ever think that those "back wooders" eat raccoon because they're hungry? Would you rather they panhandle at the crosstown to buy a 12 pack of processed mcnuggets? Who the fuck are you to judge?

And how dare you suggest SC is 100 years behind the times. 20 years tops.

Re: “The One-Pot wonder that is Raccoon Stew

Pathetic excuse for journalism. I mean really? Will next week will appeal to the Chinese population and show a dog this way?? Sure you still have some back wooders who still eat raccoon as its all about "heritage" and "tradition"...I assume you really like keeping people thinking that SC is 100 years behind the times! Ans smart advertiser should pulling their ads from this paper. This is nothing but trash. I find it completely offensive.

LAKELAND, Fla. — Animal control officers hope to trap a pack of raccoons that mauled a 74-year-old Florida woman who tried to chase them from her yard.
The sheriff in Polk County, east of Tampa, says Gretchen Whitted fell when five raccoons surrounded and attacked her Sunday. She was taken to a hospital with extensive cuts from her neck to her legs.
“We’re not talking about a lot of little bites here,” Sheriff Grady Judd said. “She was filleted.”
A neighbor called for help after hearing the woman’s cries and seeing her covered in blood.

ROYAL OAK, Mich. (AP) - A West Michigan girl whose face was mauled by a pet raccoon when she was a baby had her final major surgery on Friday.
WOOD-TV reported Saturday that the procedure on 10-year-old Charlotte Ponce was performed Friday at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, north of Detroit.
It was her fifth operation and involved shaping and contouring Charlotte's damaged nose. She is expected to be discharged from the hospital Saturday. Her surgeon plans to reconstruct Charlotte's right ear next summer.
The raccoon attacked the girl in 2002 in her crib while her biological parents lived near Ravenna, about 15 miles east of Muskegon. The raccoon was later destroyed.

It's sensationalized in the media that these weapons are used to shoot up schools? It's "the media's" fault, eh? Ok.
He's right, "the media" should demonize Porsches, because they are the real problem. "Nothing in the world is as benign as an implement built for easy killing, and if you disagree, you're the problem," gun fetishists.

Re: “The One-Pot wonder that is Raccoon Stew

As I said on Facebook, no raccoons were harmed in the making of this photo. A taxidermist loaned us a frozen raccoon for the image. We did not kill this animal. That said, there's nothing wrong with hunting raccoon and eating it. Just as there is nothing wrong with butchering a chicken for a casserole, fried chicken, or hell, nuggets. Same difference.

I don't eat dogs because they have personality. Personality goes a long way.

Re: “The One-Pot wonder that is Raccoon Stew

Are you freakin kidding me? This is disgusting! What a shame! I will never visit LA or NC!! Have any of you actually really interacted with a raccoon? I don't mean cornering them, shooting them or teasing them. They are really wonderful mothers and amazingly smart. They have special individual personalities. I know this because I am a Wildlife rehabber, and I take in all the babies that have been orphaned due to ignorant humans. Oh and 5 lbs? Really? A 5 lbs raccoon is barely 4 months old!! Barbaric!!!

You have got to be kidding. This is 2015, crawl out your cave and evolve...no need to eat any animals at all. I don't understand why these people don't eat dogs and cats too.

Hey Ron, if you're not up in arms about ISIS and Al qaeda, do us a favor and go do some volunteer work in one of their highly populated areas and give us a post/update ocassionally to let us know how things are going! Lightning haha you are awesome dude! Comparing a natural act to a group of nut-job terrorists!

Re: “Palmetto State Armory is arming South Carolina with its own take on the AR-15

The statistics argument is a good one. Cars kill more people than guns! Well, lightning strikes kill more people than terrorists do, so why is everyone so up in arms about ISIS and al Qaeda?
