Re: “A look at how a growing method of online extortion reached into a West Ashley home

I should have been more specific. Paying bills online is safe, tying your computer specifically to accessing your bank online is another. I know of several people who compromised their computer and through it hankers got access to their bank accounts. Your mileage may vary.

Re: “A look at how a growing method of online extortion reached into a West Ashley home

They were calling me several times a day. I reported them to the FCC. It's crazy. But it is also crazy to tell people not to do their banking online. I would NEVER go back to hand-paying bills. That is crazy.

how about the local police going to senior centers and spread the word? And leave a card with a number on it that a senior could call if they had questions. Could save a bunch of elderly a lot of time and money.

Re: “A look at how a growing method of online extortion reached into a West Ashley home

Three key things that will help you avoid being ripped off in these schemes 99% of the time.

1.) Never take a call from anyone who wants to talk about your computer.
2.) Never have your computer serviced by anyone over the Net, some are legit, most are not, think that's an actual Microsoft site, think again, take it to a local computer store, better service and usually less expensive.
3.) Don't do your banking transactions on a computer over the Internet.
4.) Credit card skimmers are rampant in Charleston, they are everywhere. Always shake a credit card input slot to check for a skimmer, never withdraw money from any site other than your own bank and always cover the key pad when punching in your code.

Re: “Comparing Charleston's dueling bike share programs

Why in the world is this considered "Ride Sharing?" This is obviously a case of profit-making bike rental.

Here is a detailed look at why the Lowline park should include the planned bus rapid transit line into Charleston. https://www.facebook.com/notes/best-friend…

Re: “A look at the future of Charleston's transportation system

The Lowline park can fit aBus rapid transit busway and still be a wonderful place Cambridge England runs BRT on an old rail corridor and it works great. Here is the video of how park, bike path and bus way coexist there. In all likelyhood someone who is influential doesn't want our rapid transit line near their property and they're working to sabotage it going where it needs to be, forcing it on to a congested meeting street where delays will be inevitable. here is what we could have. https://youtu.be/10UY3WC4nDY

Re: “A look at the future of Charleston's transportation system

Wait...and why exactly should we change a rail line into a walking path when every bit of research has pointed to light rail? The green line goes right through the middle of downtown to wait.....the visitors center.....

Maybe Im just missing something

Re: “A look at the future of Charleston's transportation system

I live in West Ashley and I'm currently without a car. I bicycle to work along Sam Rittenberg blvd. which is a dangerous activity. Many drivers don't realize that bikes are -supposed- to use the roads, and many more have no clue as to the limited visibility that a cyclist has to cope with.

Any trip of more than a mile or two is best taken by bus, but given last year's cuts it takes at least an hour or more to get down to the peninsula. CARTA is obsessed with running their buses at a profit, or at least break-even and they've cut routes to the bone in order to maximize revenue at the expense of customer service. The #32 bus, which runs between Super Stop and Bee's Ferry only runs once per hour, even at peak times. Forget trying to go to Folly Beach, Mt. Pleasant or James Island. You'll spend much of the day traveling.

If you're not approaching sixty (like me), you can try bicycling down Ashley River Road. Sam Rittenberg -> Rivers avenue is right out, due to the intransigence of the SCDOT to modify the North Bridge to accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians.

By the time that CARTA and the COG get around to fixing these transportation problems, Charleston will be in gridlock. Businesses will not want to relocate here and skilled workers will not want to move here. 2040 is not soon enough. We've spent millions of dollars on 'studies' and what we've got is a dysfunctional mess. Smaller cities than Charleston have effective transit systems, why can't we?
