Re: “Closed for Business

Visited on a Friday afternoon about 6pm (early dinner). We had the Pork Slap and fried chicken sandwich. Both were delicious. The chicken was fried really "lightly" and not greasy at all. I had the green beans as a side with mine and didnt want to share any of them!! Had a couple of the Abita beers that they were promoting where all $$ from the sales of those went to Gulf coast clean up. The Andygator was yummy! Very friendly and knowledgeable waiter...i think his name was Andrew (?) He made suggestions and let me sample of couple of beers to make up my mind what to order. Most of the sandwiches are about $9, so not too pricey. Yes, the craft beers may be pricier than the PBR or Miller Lite you can get elsewhere, but you know, here you get what you pay for....!!

Re: “FIG

FIG serves some of the most incredible food in Charleston. Period. The CHICKEN LIVER PÂTÉ is one of the most balanced and delicious dishes I have ever eaten. The pork trotters are incredible. The gnocchi was a little boring, but I think it is not the same as the current one on the menu. The homemade walnut icecream was absolutely terrific. I can't say enough about the food at this place. I am excited about their commitment to local food.

One major negative for me at FIG was the atmosphere. It does not match the incredible food. We were seated all the way in the back. The first thing I noticed was that the floors were laminate squares in the same color and pattern as one would find in an elementary school cafeteria. It was atrocious, and barely a step up from carpet (which absolutely no restaurant should ever entertain that idea. gross.). The space was not cozy at all. And please repaint the tan walls and replace the handmade paintings. They need to carry over the atmosphere in the bar area to the rest of the restaurant eating space. It looks like the decorator ran out of money in the first fourth of the restaurant.

I wish that our server had a little more experience and was more attentive. It is rather tacky to ask to see IDs of a married couple clearly in their 20s dining alone. We had loads of fun digging in our purse and suit coat.

I do not want FIG in anyway to become pretentious and stuffy, but I think there is a way to be tasteful and balanced. The entire restaurant needs to be thoughtful, not just the food. But in all seriousness, FIG's food is so incredible that I can ignore the atmosphere and the service. I would go again tonight.

Re: “The Mill

The Mill is a great local bar with good food (especially considering their limited resources), a great beer selection, and fantastic local and regional music, that covers a huge variety of genres. The staff is fast and friendly, but also ALWAYS fair. They will know your drink of choice from the first time you walk through the door, and will have it ready for you, before you can even get to the bar (EVERY time).......but they also will not hesitate to kick you out, if you should happen to turn into that drunk A-hole that deserves it...regardless of who you are. Rest assured however, you can walk back through the door the very next day and the bartender will have your drink ready for you...even if it's the same bartender that kicked your drunk behind out, the night before.

Re: “The Harbor Grille

Salsa nite has been discontinued on saturdays for months now, why is this still not updated. I've never tried the restaurant, this is not a review of the restaurant. Salsa nite used to be awesome but last I heard, it was moved elsewhere.

Re: “Neil Jordan's Steakhouse

I went to Neil Jordan's for their Sunday brunch, and thoroughly enjoyed myself. The servers were timely and considerate, the food was delicious and presented well, and the atmosphere was pleasant. Although they can be a little pricey, Neil Jordan's offers a range of food and beverage choices that span from inexpensive to fine dining quality prices. I recommend this restaurant to anybody visiting or living in Charleston. The owners work hard to appease their customers, and are willing to take recommendations and critiques to improve their service.

Re: “Red Drum

flat out amazing meal. first of all, olives stuffed with blue cheese in the martini's, that's an A+ right off the bat. The beer selection was stellar (even though i stuck with the martini's). For dinner I had the cedar plank mahi-mahi over local vegetables with 2 butter poached shrimp and a pesto sauce (special). The pesto was not overpowering at all, that was my one concern. Highly recommend this place anytime for any occasion!

Re: “52.5 Records

I disagree with the above review. 52.5 is a great, funky, local place to poke around in and see what you can come up with. i have found some great obscure records in the 25cents bin and some fun nostalgic bday presents for friends. Its not a place to find everything that you are looking for, but something you never thought to find.

Re: “Daniel Island Grille

My family and I love this place. Rockin' family friendly during the day, and party at night, at least weekend nights for now :-) Oh yeah, and the food seems to get better everytime we visit!

Re: “Daniel Island Grille

We have been open for 2 years and please notice that I only gave myself 4 stars....that's because we know that we have to come in everyday and work hard at getting better. There is one thing you will be assured of at The DIG and thats hospitality! We are proud of the food, the staff, and the bar/restaurant itself. Come and give us a shot, I know you will be pleasantly surprised!

As far as Island residents' comments; this is coming directly from Brian Mahoney, owner at the Daniel Island Grille, If I find out you are slamming me because you are affiliated with the other restaurant down the street please stop and let your credentials stand on there own merit. I hate that you have time to slam the competition but you obviously do. If you do not have affiliation than please come by the DIG and ask for me I would like an opportunity to change your views.

Re: “Fuel

new menu is DELICIOUS. Lots of vegetarian options, which is nice. Drink prices are also really good...bottomless mimosas for Sunday brunch only $10!! Service isn't always the best but I've never gone wrong with anything on the menu

Re: “Closed for Business

the fried chicken sandwich was delicious. the accompaning fries were from the nearest burger king and the "famous" fried pie was a only a slight improvement over the fruit pies available (two for a dollar) at the golden arches. it is comfortable and clean, watched over by a friendly and helpful staff. if one is careful, he or she will be rewarded with a delectable dining experience.

Re: “Cork Neighborhood Bistro

Well, the beer and wine are now flowing. I went in last week for lunch and got the pastrami sandwich special. It was done wonderfully on crispy, buttery, toasty bread. The guy at the table next to me got the turkey, havarti, bacon...that is definitely what I am getting next time. My girlfriend got the greek salad; huge, delicious, fresh. Cork seems to be a great spot!

Re: “Smoky Oak Taproom

I normally don't comment on anything like this but I feel like the Smoky Oak has been taking a lot of heat for there service. So I would like to share my experience at the Taproom as we now call it. My husband and I normally sit at the bar when we go out, but the first time we went the bar was full so we sat at a table. We were greeted by a great smile and really friendly server named Jen. She gave us suggestions on beer and food. Never once did our drinks run out, although our food took a second to get there it didn't become an issue because we were enjoying ourselves. The food was definitely worth the wait and the service was great! At this point we have been back several times. Each time it gets better and better. I will say when Jen is not our server it is not always the same experience. Now we just make sure we sit with her if the bar is full. We have noticed some new faces and hope they follow her lead. This is a new restaurant that has small issues just like anywhere new would but they are minor for the great food and staff. This place is just what JI needed! My hopes are that people keep in mind that this is a small family owned restaurant that is just getting started. So to all the staff and the taproom... keep working hard and doing what your doing there are some of us that notice the progression and are happy with your service.

Re: “Cork Neighborhood Bistro

The most delicious lunch I've had in years. Odd that they are called cork, but do not serve wine, but the chef has created a fresh menu that exceeded my expectations!

Re: “Midtown Bar & Grill

I've eaten at midtown twice for lunch and have been twice for drinks. Great BBQ and pimento cheese sandwiches and awesome sides like fried okra. The brunch menu looks really good and I've heard good reviews. I've been for happy hour on a Friday night which wasn't too busy and been in for drinks on a busy weekend, the outdoor patio is great and the waitresses are hot. The name says Bar and Grill and it's definitely a busy bar on weekend evenings. give them a try

Re: “Club Habana

Club Habana is a very unique spot in Charleston. It has a very intimate atmosphere that is unlike any other bar downtown (except maybe upper deck). One feels if they are in a living room, with comfortable couches and chairs spread throughout the 2nd floor. The bartenders are fantastic, the remember your drink orders and are very friendly.

HOWEVER if you are a non-smoker you might not enjoy Club Habana. The cigarette and cigar smoke is very thick, to the point where ones eyes are so irritated by the smoke they may start watering upon entering. You clothes WILL stink like smoke after visiting. This bar is a real throwback to three years ago when every bar downtown was filled with smoke and it really makes one appreciate the fact Charleston's bars are smoke free.

Re: “Gene's Haufbrau

Nice bar with friendly people and a large beer selection, but there are too few pool tables and dart boards. I think that there should be a time limit on games.
